Saving $$ on gas with a scooter

I have been riding a scooter for 6 years next month. This was before the cost of gas went way up. I have saved so much on gas and will continue to do so now that gas prices are going up even more.

There is more to it than just gas though. Of course, there is the environment. That has it's part but not what I want to focus on. The simple fact is that it is better on the environment. How much and what would be the global warming impact if we all did it and so on is for others to debate.

I have saved lots on maintenance too. Oil change is a simple drain and fill. Takes less than a quart of oil. 1 spark plug instead of 4, 6, 8...
Tires...well only 2 of them. They cost $35 each. Cheaper to register and title, and certainly much cheaper to buy. Oh, and insurance...uh, yeah it is only $32 PER YEAR.

Of course you knew it was cheaper but hopefully you know better just how much it can save, and it really does add up.

I get other benefits too including spending much less time at the pump. I get great parking at almost every place I go. I do not have to worry about grocery carts bumping into it.

I live in the southwest. While it is great conditions most of the time, I would drive it elsewhere as much as I could. Totally worth it even if only 4-6 months a year.

Well, there are more and more scooters to choose from. I have had 2 so far to share with you about.

I started with the Honda Elite 80 (80cc engine, $2,400 cost). Fantastic scooter. Incredible gas mileage of 95mpg (even 115 mpg at times!!). Top speed was 45mph but that did not happen often and certainly could not get to that speed quick enough. If much wind or incline, I could get to 35 or 40 mph. This was fine for around my town. But, I got to where I was traveling further and needed more. So, I upgraded to a 150cc scooter. Now, I had to get motorcycle endorsement (less than 100cc, no license required). I also dropped to 60mpg. This scooter was a Roketa Fiji. Cost $1,000. I can go 65mph now and can get there without much trouble.

You should see me when I go grocery shopping or to the post office to mail packages. Funny looking load for sure. I get lots of smiles on people's faces, and I smile right back. I know it is funny looking, but my wallet looks fantastic!!
